The alternative pop rock sounds of The Five Percent reveals the art of a band that neither wallows in heartache and despair nor indulges in musical diabetes with bubblegum glitter. The nuances of The Five Percent’s songwriting contain sublime and seamless blends of perkiness and heartfelt sincerity. It’s the heart of real humanity beating at the core of this band’s music.
Says The Five Percent’s Neil Nicastro (guitar, vocals), “Music is emotion … it’s bliss, desire, frustration, hope, satisfaction.” It’s a musical philosophy shared by bandmates Matt Ralph, (lead vocals and guitar) Brian Keating (Bass) and T (drums).
That’s because these keenly aware musicians see a world of life and passion in each second that passes. Life is full of riches, and since life is their inspiration, so are the songs of The Five Percent.
Inspiration lies in “every single moment of the day, every song, sound, personal interaction …”
It’s no wonder The Five Percent has found the secret to merging accessibility and depth, originality and widespread appeal. The band has proven its mettle on the stage and in the recording booth.
Most recently, the band toured and recorded with members of Dispatch. “Throughout our four year existence, we’ve played across the country and back a couple of times, sold nearly 10,000 CDs and shared the stage with several national acts.”
Talent is a given. There’s no shortage of it here. But the real kicker is utter devotion to music. “Everything we own and have accomplished is because of music,” says Nicastro. “I want to write, record and perform with all my passion – with complete gratitude for those that appreciate it, yet free of expectation.” Again, his fellow Five Percent players echo his feelings 100 percent.
Their new full length CD, “A Summer Sunday Morning At Dawn”, is due for release on June 13, 2009. This is their fourth full length CD. It features 22 brand new tracks both acoustic and electric. While recording this CD, they took time out of the studio to perform a showcase for Ourstage.com and a date on the MTV Soundtrackers Tour with Brendan James and Parachute. They have opened for Thriving Ivory and Barcelona and also for Eve 6. Most recently the bad hs performed with The Gin Blossoms and Company of Thieves
